Child Rights Commissioner’s Statement for World Children’s Day

20 Nov 2025

Dr. Maha Al Shehab, the Child Rights Commissioner at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), explained that the celebration of World Children’s Day on the twentieth of November carries particular significance due to its association with the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. She affirmed that this occasion represents an opportunity to strengthen the commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for children—one that guarantees their protection, care, and the development of their abilities, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to building a more advanced and prosperous future.

She noted that this year’s celebration is held under the theme “My Day… My Rights”, a slogan that reflects the importance of the child’s right to expression and participation. She stressed that listening to children’s voices and enabling them to express their views is a rights-based obligation that contributes to enhancing their participation in matters that affect their lives.

On this occasion, Dr. Al Shehab expressed her appreciation for the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to support child rights through national policies and initiatives, dedicated protection and care programs, and legislation that guarantees children’s rights to education, health, and protection—efforts that have strengthened the Kingdom’s standing in safeguarding child rights.

She affirmed that, in her capacity as Child Rights Commissioner, the National Institution for Human Rights remains committed to continuing its follow-up on the implementation of relevant international conventions, supporting initiatives that enhance children’s participation and promote their best interests, and ensuring ongoing cooperation with relevant entities to guarantee an environment that enables every child to grow, innovate, and positively contribute to society.
